How to Install Steam And Download Games For a System Running Ubuntu Linux

For the first time in a long time, games enjoyed by Windows users and offered by one of the biggest digital distribution platform called steam have made their way to open-source operating systems like Linux and its siblings.

Steam is developed and distributed by Valve cooperations and it is a platform predominantly engineered towards gamers. The software allows users to purchase, download and install games across multiple devices, cloud storage for game saves and information, community services like friends list, and in-game voice chat. Since launched, Steam has made it possible for numerous games to be ported to the Linux OS and other Linux-based operating systems like Ubuntu.

You first begin by opening a terminal by using the key combinations Ctrl+Alt+T then proceed by running the following command line {sudo apt-get install steam} which initiates the installation of the Steam client software a computer running Ubuntu.

At this point, the terminal will show a screen with the Terms & Conditions on it, use Tab to navigate between the accepting or declining options and strike Enter to select a choice.
The next page will ask you to confirm your selected choice if it is Yes, use Tab to choose an option and hit Enter to confirm.

After the installation has been finalized, proceed to the Unity Dashboard and Open the Steam icon.

Starting the app will initiate the downloading of additional packages because you were only installing the software installer in the previous install procedure.

If you are able to successfully log in to your Steam account either by using your previous information or creating a new account, you will be taken directly to your home screen.
