Development Has Began For Ubuntu Mate 16.10 Yakkety Yak

Ubuntu Mate might be an official derivative of the well-known Ubuntu desktop operating system but Project leader Martin Whimpress has hinted several times that they are vying to bring users a different and much-improved experience.

Since Canonical announced its next big release of Ubuntu which is named Yakkety Yak, Martin Wimpress and his team has been getting together to sketch out the blueprints of a follow-up Ubuntu Mate version which is expected to be released around the same time as Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak.

Following an announcement made on his Google Plus profile, Martin Wimpress has hinted that the band is ready to take on its next challenge by starting work on Ubuntu Mate 16.10 Yakkety Yak.

The development team is working on enhancing the user experience by updating Ubuntu Mate Welcome and software Boutique and also adding in some exciting new features.

Software Boutique which is the graphical package manager of the Ubuntu Mate operating system will now have an initial search feature that is going to be called Boutique Search. This new feature will not only let users just search for apps to install but also give them ability to update and remove all of them at once on the same screen.

Additionally, the Ubuntu Mate welcome app has been updated to version 16.10.0 to match the version of the upcoming release which now comes with a feature called Boutique news and promises to keep users informed about any new software changes that are implemented in each release.

On the other hand, there is a great news for those looking to try out the new features that are said to be implemented on both Ubuntu Mate welcome app and the Software Boutique as they have all been backported to the current stable version of Ubuntu Mate 16.04 meaning early birds can have a crack at it before the official release.

If you are currently using Ubuntu Mate 16.04 LTS operating system, you can apply all new updates to enjoy the recent features mentioned above and remember that Ubuntu Mate 16.10 development has started and first Alpha release will be available on June 30th.
