Ubuntu Touch Mobile Operating System Unofficially Coming to OnePlus 3
Marius Gripsgård who is the team leader at UBports.com, which is a group comprising of top independent developers that are fascinated by Canonical’s Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system.
The team is said to be working on porting the Ubuntu Mobile platform on as many devices as they can and already with Chinese company OnePlus about to launch it’s highly anticipated flagship OnePlus 3, the developers are said to be gauging their abilities to bring the platform to said device.
According to Marius, He has already placed an order for the device and is looking to start development as soon as he lays his hands on it porting the Ubuntu Touch Mobile operating system to the said handset.
OnePlus 3 comes with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with Full HD (1080×1920) resolution with Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 chipset that sports Dual-Core 2.15 GHz Kryo and Dual-Core 1.6 GHz Kryo CPUs and Adreno 530 GPU including 6 GB of RAM, which makes the device perfect for convergence.
Additionally, the device supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.2 LE connectivity, A-GPS, GLONASS, and BDS GPS support, 64 GB internal storage, a 16 MP f/2.0 front camera capable of 2160p@30fps video recording, and a fingerprint reader.
Interestingly enough, OnePlus 3 has been praised for both its hardware and affordable price when compared to what is being offered currently in the smartphone market.
The handset is expected to set buys back at least $399 which is pretty cheap which such top notch hardware.
