Good News! You Can Now Download The New Ubuntu 16.10 Beta 1

You know how it goes, this means freshly pressed ISOs for Ubuntu flavors, a lot of new bugs to find and no guarantees whatsoever that things won’t explode in developers’ faces.

The following Ubuntu flavors are the ones who will be taking part in this round of beta bug testing:

  • Lubuntu
  • Kubuntu*
  • Ubuntu MATE
  • Ubuntu GNOME
  • Ubuntu Kylin

With Ubuntu GNOME’s distribution packing some big changes that will benefit everyone, it is one aspect of this beta release that is worth getting hyped for. But first, here’s a recap of what’s new in each:

Lubuntu 16.10 Beta 1
This Ubuntu flavor packs in a good selection of bug fixes and core app updates. It comes with a
brand new default wallpaper and although many users (allegedly) have low aspirations for Lubuntu 16.10 Beta 1 ,we can’t wait to see what new changes will come to the distro.

The developers still refuse to switch to the LxQt desktop, but anyway, if it floats your boat, you can dwnload the Iso here

Ubuntu Mate 16.10 Beta 1

Ubuntu MATE has finally migrated to GTK 3.20 and updated a ton of its core applications in order to take full advantage of the move. Grab its iso here.

Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 Beta 1

Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 Beta 1 proudly flaunts the bulk of the GNOME 3.20 stack which is an update that comes with a ton of new features and improvements.

Apps like Cheese, Calculator, and File Roller among other apps are even newer, with the versions for GNOME 3.22 Beta 1 shipping in this release!

This release also comes with a glossy new LibreOffice 5.2 and it uses the GTK3 version by default. Users can easily setup their online accounts, add Wi-Fi, and configure their language.

Ubuntu Kylin 16.10 Beta 1

Ubuntu Kylin received a lot of changes earlier this year of which adding support to move the Unity launcher to the bottom of the screen was one. For this 16.10 build it seems to be focusing on not just bug fixes but also stability. According to the debelopers,  they have

“fixed many internationalization and localization bugs in Ubuntu itself and bugs in software written by the Ubuntu Kylin team”.

Kubuntu 16.10 Beta 1

Neither release notes or ISO are currently available for Kubuntu yet despite being mentioned in the release announcement. We will update this post when they become available.

What About Ubuntu With Unity?

The most popular (and regular) version of Ubuntu will only be taking part in, as the Ubuntu community calls it: final beta i.e. the second beta release. Stay tuned to Ubuntu Next to know how you can grab your copy when it’s out.
